Forty years of research show us that, when parents live apart, it's best for children if the parents share the day-to-day responsibilities of child rearing as equally as possible. This sort of shared parenting is also better for mothers and fathers. Because of shared parenting's benefits for children, it should be the presumptive outcome when parents divorce or separate. Polling shows that the overwhelming majority of Americans agree with this. Nevertheless, progress toward establishing presumptions in favor of equally shared parenting has often been blocked by special interest groups and a number other factors. In this webinar, we will examine the barriers to the creation of legal presumptions of shared parenting, rebut the objections that these special interest groups have raised, and explore paths for overcoming these barriers so that every American child can be assured that parental separation doesn't result in parental deprivation.
Donald C. Hubin, Ph.D., is a Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at The Ohio State University, former Chair of the OSU Department of Philosophy, and Founding Director Emeritus of the Ohio State University Center for Ethics and Human Values. He received his B.A. with honors from the University of California, Davis, and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Arizona. He specializes in ethics, social/political philosophy and philosophy of law. One of Don’s main areas of current research is the nature, basis and implications of parental rights. In this area, his major articles are: “Parental Rights and Due Process,” The Journal of Law and Family Studies, 1:2(1999)123–150; “Daddy Dilemmas: Untangling the Puzzles of Paternity,” The Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy, 13(2003) 29-80; “Fatherhood,” International Encyclopedia of Ethics, Wiley-Blackwell, (2013); and • • “Fractured Fatherhood,” Journal of Family Theory & Review, 6(2014)76-90. “Procreators' Duties: Sexual Asymmetries,” Oxford Handbook of Reproductive Ethics, (2017) 301-324. Don has been active in citizen action groups to promote shared parenting and has also served on several state commissions, including the Ohio Child Support Reform Shareholders’ Group (2001–2003) and the Ohio Child Support Guideline Council (2003–2005). "How Parental Alienation Deniers ZealotryMakes Them Dangerous"
On Sunday, June 2, 2024 @ 8 PM EDT, Dr. Kathleen Reay and Dr. Lynn Steinberg will be our presenters for this very webinar. titled "How Parental Alienation Deniers Zealotry Makes Them Dangerous". This will be aired exclusively on our Families Divided TV you tube channel.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0qET_H81bIcf7b55UHxhKQ
The issue of parental alienation has been acknowledged and discussed in legal and scholarly literature throughout the United States and Europe for more than two centuries. Unfortunately, discussions regarding this matter have become increasingly contentious. Individuals who have personally encountered instances of alienation—including parents, grandparents, and extended family members—confirm its occurrence, characterizing it as an extremely distressing and traumatic experience for any family to face. In today’s presentation, we will explore how proponents opposing the recognition of parental alienation adopt a fervently dismissive stance that can prove harmful. We will critically address ten key areas where misinformation is commonly spread by deniers of parental alienation. Substantive evidence will be provided to counteract these misconceptions in each area discussed.
Dr. Kathleen M. Reay is an internationally recognized expert in high-conflict divorce, parental alienation, parent-child estrangement, and child emotional abuse and related trauma. Dr. Reay has significant experience providing print, radio, podcast, and television interviews worldwide. Her clinical career has been dedicated to helping alienated children and their families move forward. She has worked with 5,000 plus alienated children and their families in varying roles: clinical practitioner in private practice, child custody evaluator, expert witness, coach, consultant and the Founder and Clinical Director of the Family Reflections Reunification Program for Severely Alienated Children and Their Families. Dr. Reay is the author or co-author of several peer-reviewed published Parental Alienation research studies. Her 2011 book "Toxic Divorce: A Workbook for Alienated Parents" won International Book Awards in 2012 – 1st Place Winner in the Parenting/Family: Divorce category and Award-Winning Finalist in the Self-Help: Relationships category. Dr. Reay’s newest book “Blindsided by Parental Alienation: Proven Strategies to Reconnect with Your Child” will be published soon.
Dr. Lynn Steinberg has been a therapist for 50 years. Throughout the years she has focused on domestic violence and sexual abuse. As an expert witness in the courts, she adds to her expertise parental alienation, coercive control and false allegations. She testifies throughout the country and even the world. Dr. Steinberg was the first expert witness to use coercive control as a form of domestic violence and therefore parental alienation. She has written a book “You’re Not Crazy: Overcoming Parent /Child Alienation”, a self-help book for alienated parents in the court system. Dr. Steinberg has also dealt with the legislature in California regarding Child Testimony in the courts and Kayden’s Law.
